So much truth in that image.  This is also why I rip my own movies and crack games I buy, it is just more convenient.

I ripped all of my DVDs, so much more convenient to just double click and enjoy the feature than to deal with all the silliness that they pack onto those DVDs that I really never cared about.

VHS did a little something right...

I buy all my movies.

I'm not suggesting anyone does not buy their movies. I'm simply saying that when I buy a movie I instantly rip it to a hard drive so it's more enjoyable to watch, and more portable as a collection for me. ; )

Ah.  That is a good idea.

If you don't mind the space (it is kind of large without transcoding for the moment)...I'm using this to backup my DVDs and Blu-Rays to external hard drives: http://www.makemkv.com it is really a blessing, and based mostly on open source projects that are already available.

Transcoding is in the works, so hopefully if you wanted to compress 200 movies down to 4 gigs each, you would be able to put them all on a 1TB external and take them with you wherever you wanted. ; )

It is incredibly true.  Those FBI warnings and no skippable intro movies are the most frustrating thing about watching movies.  Those messages are exclusively for the bootleggers who are mass producing hundreds of copies and selling them off Canal street in New York or other major cities.  And they don't care.

I'm already planning a home theatre that will integrate this current PC with my TV and PS3 so that I can rip anything I own and still enjoy it on a big screen.  I'll at least get the convenience of rips without breaking the law.

On the game front I've realized that I contributed to the state of things in PC gaming pretty severely.  As far back as '98 I used to get copies of cracked games from my friend and his older brother.  Now that I've gotten older (and a job) I know how important it is to buy the things I want from the companies I like.  Especially if I ever want to see them make more of it.  I've also resisted the urge to "stick it" to people (like Activision) by pirating their game because it only justifies they're actions.
